April is one of my favorite months of the year, because we get to enjoy both Spring and Poetry! April is National Poetry Month, and today is Poem in your Pocket Day - literally, a day to carry a poem around in your pocket. Widely celebrated by teachers and educators, it's a great day to get out, read and share a poem! I hope you are celebrating by soaking in the beautiful spring sights, sounds & smells of nature around you. Here is a poem from my collection, Spring Awakening: Poems.
Quiet birds chitter-chattering
leaves rustling, trees swaying gently
fat white clouds moving, drifting across the soft blue sky.
A wind catches my papers, blowing them across
freshly mown grass, the scent of it
heavy in the warm air.
Bright pink flowers blooming
a small green lizard climbing the chair
next to mine, creeping fast.
A breeze blows the empty swings
their sounds of laughter, squeals of delight
filling the April air
when the yellow school bus
