Read Gaia: A New Earth - a Science-Fiction Work-In-Progress!

In 2019, I'm sharing some of the new writing I'm working on - particularly, the ideas that have crossed into genres I love reading. One of those genres is science fiction. As a lifelong lover of space and astronomy, I've always had a penchant for stories in the stars - on faraway planets and within mystical galaxies. But until now, I've never tried writing them. I think, though, readers of my poetry will recognize my love affair with space within many of my poems. Perhaps it isn't such a stretch, then - to take my prose to the stars!

My newest story, Gaia: A New Earth - is now available to read on Wattpad. I've entered it into Wattpad's Open Novella Contest, which runs during January, February and March 2019. I'm hoping for readers to leave not only votes, but comments and critiques on my story, as it's a work-in-progress that I'll be posting as I write. In other words, it's a first draft - and input from readers is like gold (or chocolate, or wine - take your pick - to writers.) :-) Here's the link and story blurb below. I'll be updating it every Friday for the next two months that the contest runs. Read, enjoy, and wish me luck!

Earth, 2070 AD. 18-year-old Kai and his twin sister Zel are survivors.  Two years ago, they lost their parents in an apocalyptic environmental disaster that ravaged Earth, killing many. Kai and Zel now live a scattered, nomadic existence along with other survivors. On a planet left devastated with few natural resources available, Kai and Zel work hard to stay alive. But while Kai goes deeper into Earth for answers, Zel looks to the stars. She is convinced that their time on Earth is limited, and that in order to save humanity, they must travel to Mars. And when a Martian spaceship crash lands into Earth near the Blue Ridge Mountains of their childhood home, Zel sets out on a journey to find a new home on Mars, the Red Planet.
