Creative Illumination

To start off November, I'm pleased to share some publication news! I have a poem included in Aurora & Blossoms latest anthology, an inspirational collection of stories, verses and visual art. It's available in digital format through multiple e-book retailers; more info at the link below:

✍ My NaNoWriMo 2021 writing project is to revise, edit and compile a new poetry collection comprised of poems I wrote in 2020-2021, which I hope to submit to publishers in 2022. Visit the link below to learn about NaNoWriMo; it's not too late to join the community and begin writing!

NaNoWriMo

🎼Musically, I'm in the midst of rehearsing Morten Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium with The Stay at Home Choir, and in another short week will begin sessions with The Choir of the Earth for a selection of John Rutter's Christmas Carols.

Being surrounded by beautiful sacred music opens an inspired, contemplative space for me as both a singer and a poet, and the intersection of the two arts creates a swell of creativity that seems to go along with the joys of the season.

One of the joys I found this past week was in the form of a documentary on composer Morten Lauridsen, who has lived and created his choral masterpieces on an island off the coast of the state of Washington for over the past four decades. The film gives a behind-the-scenes look at his home, his process and how illuminated he is by poetry and the arts, serenity, and spirituality. Of course, his music is gorgeous, and the visions of the sea stunning. To any artist or aesthete, I highly recommend it! Here's the Preview, plus the link on Vimeo to rent or purchase:

You can also watch this illuminating discussion (for free on YouTube) from the composer on how poetry informs and enriches music and life.

Later this month, I'm anticipating some new musical releases - which I'll update this page with as soon as the cat's out of the bag.

*Update* Volume 1 of Stay at Home Choir's Album Project is now available for pre-order, and will be released November 30th! The album features 5 classical pieces recorded by the choir in 2021, plus 3 bonus tracks recorded in 2020.

Thank you for visiting my blog. May you be safe, well & creating this season! The arts bring us light, a gift to be shared.
